The first ‘Nalanghu’ ceremony start right after the ‘Panthakaal’ planting ceremony as about 5 a.m. on the 24 June.
The ‘PanthaKaal’ planting done on the same day an ‘Arasaani’ (a combination of cuttings from Bo Tree – Lord Shiva, Banyan Tree – Vishnu, Margosa Tree – Shakthi ) are planted in the homes of the couple. The current substitute for this is a 3 feet cutting of Mulmurukku which is easy to propagate and signifies fertility and prosperity. Further the thorns signify the thousand spectacles, ‘Indira’, the king of heaven got as a curse for wrongfully court with sage Gauthama's wife Ahalihai. This is a grim reminder of the price Indiran paid for his mistake of infidelity. Three manure pots of nine grains are also planted to be sprouted and be used on the day of the wedding.

Right after the The ‘PanthaKaal’ planting ceremony done, I was prepared for the "Thai Nalanghu" or known as Mother ‘Nalanghu’ ritual, which is performed by aunts from mother’s bloodline.
On the very same day at about 5.30 p.m, the second ‘Nalanghu’ which known as the “Chinnama and Athai Nalangu” was performed by the aunts from my father’s bloodline along with other elderly ladies. And the third ‘Nalanghu’ was performed on the evening of 25 June, which is observed under the watchful eyes of older aunts for warding off evil eyes.
However, there is one more final ‘Nalanghu’ known as ‘Manavarai Nalanghi’, or alter ‘Nalanghu’ to be performed on the dais during the wedding ceremony.
