For readers who are wondering what is ‘Parisam’, it is a betrothal ceremony, announces the betrothal of the couple to friends and relatives. At the ceremony, the groom arrives with seven or more platters (must be ODD number count) containing different gifts, including jewellery, for the bride. The bride's family then matches the amount of jewellery from the groom, but it is all given to the bride. Agreements on the wedding date, number of guest invited, wedding budgets and etc are reached on that day. After the date is fixed, wedding cards are personally hand delivered to close relatives and friends. There are two types of Parisam. Standard ‘Parisam’ will be carried out earlier before wedding date, whereas for ‘Udan Parisam’ it will be carried out on the morning of wedding day before the wedding ceremony.
